Commission Process for Custom Designed Furniture

Hand made furniture is designed and built to last many generations and makes a unique statement about you and your home or office. Below is a description of how the commission process works. Please call or email to schedule an appointment for a consultation.

The commission process is divided into five stages:

1. Initial consultation
2. Concept development
3. Formal design/design approval
4. Construction
5. Delivery

Stage one: Initial Consultation
In this stage I am trying to get a feel for what you have in mind. You can communicate this through images that you've collected or verbally describe your inspiration to me as we chat. The best results are achieved if I can see where you intend to place the piece. Then I can design the piece for the correct proportion and scale to fit the placement in the room so that the piece works in harmony with your home or office. If it is not possible for me to visit your home or office, photographs will suffice.

Stage two: Concept development
The goal here is to use whatever means are most effective to arrive at a common understanding about the direction of the design. Usually, simple sketches are sufficient. When we reach a general consensus, a contract will be drawn up, and a price offered. To continue to the formal design phase a 50% deposit is required.

Stage three: Formal design/design approval
Once a contract is agreed upon, formal designs are drawn up and submitted for your approval. This process usually takes a few weeks, but varies depending upon the complexity of the project.

Stage four: Construction
Once construction begins, depending upon the piece, this stage can last anywhere from a few weeks to six months. For pieces that require more than three months to complete, a progress payment may be required during the contruction. Usually it will be 25% of the remaining balance.

Stage five: Delivery
Once your finish is fully cured, your piece is carefully blanket wrapped and crated to your home or office. Final payment of the balance plus shipping charges are due prior to shipment.

I look forward to working together with you on your project.
